We’ve just received a plea for help from some of our valued readers, to help them keep a beloved school from closing.
The Board of Education of School District No. 61 has proposed a 200-600% increase in rental fees for out of school care properties.
One of the schools that will be hit hardest if this proposal gets accepted is the Strawberry Vale Preschool.
The school has just been notified of the 600% rental fee increase to begin July 2017, and if this proposal goes through, they will most likely have to close their doors for good despite having full registration for the 2017-18 school year.
“The historic Little Red Schoolhouse has been a part of the Saanich community since 1893 and is currently a Non-profit Cooperative Preschool operated by the families who attend the preschool,” said Heather Nguyen, a member of the Strawberry Vale Preschool community.
The school district is having a meeting to assess the viability of this proposal tonight, and we encourage everyone to attend and show their support for the schools that will be affected if it passes.
