Victoria Mustard Seed Food Bank gets a $50,000 donation from the Walmart Foundation

Share

With rent and utility prices at an all time high, many people are finding it more and more difficult to pay the bills and put healthy food on the table. If this sounds like you, or someone you know, we have some good news.

In a move that will help feed more of the city’s hungry, the Walmart Foundation has donated $50,000 to the Victoria Mustard Seed Foundation! This is a part of the $2.6 million donation that the company has given to Food Banks Canada this year.

If you’ve lived here for a while, you’re probably familiar with the Mustard Seed Food Bank. Like most food banks, it’s funded entirely by donations – so this large influx of cash will make a huge difference in how many people they will now be able to feed.

Specifically, this contribution will be used to buy a refrigerated van – we estimate that this move will positively impact around 5000 people every month.

How You Can Help

The Mustard Seed is Vancouver Island’s largest food bank, and functions because of generous donors like the Walmart Foundation – but not everyone has millions to spare.

If you have some time however, you can get involved too! Try volunteering in one of the many positions offered by them.

Sometimes they’ll even have job openings for those who really want to give back to the community. Be sure to check out their website for updates!
