Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Minister of National Defence Harjit Sajjan will be in town tomorrow, and the duo will start the day with a run in Esquimalt with members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Afterward, Trudeau is scheduled to speak with the media around noon before heading downtown to meet with Mayor Lisa Helps at Victoria City Hall in the early afternoon.

Trudeau will be the first Prime Minister in more than 50 years to visit Victoria City Hall when Prime Minister Pearson met Mayor Wilson in August 1965.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Prime Minister tomorrow, it’s the first time in more than 50 years that a Prime Minister has visited Victoria City Hall,” noted Mayor Lisa Helps. “I am looking forward to a positive discussion about opportunities for the City and federal government to work together collaboratively on a number of innovative initiatives.”

After his stop in Victoria, Trudeau will travel to Vancouver for Friday.

Impact to the public:

• Pandora Avenue from Douglas Street to Government Street will be blocked off to all traffic throughout the afternoon, starting at noon.
• City Hall will remain open during the visit, with restricted access in some areas and an increased police and security presence. Members of the public accessing the second floor of City Hall are asked to use the main elevator, and avoid the spiral staircase in the foyer.
• The Centennial Square entrance to City Hall will close at noon. The Pandora Avenue and Douglas Street entrances will remain open, with accessible access through the Pandora entrance.
