Nine occupants escape house fire at North Saanich duplex

Share

One-half of a duplex home in North Saanich on Pauqauchin First Nation land was destroyed in a fire in the early morning hours on Friday.

Nine people were living on both sides of the duplex, and everyone was able to be safely evacuated before police arrival.

About two dozen firefighters attended the scene.

Police have secured the scene and are assisting fire investigators in determining the cause of the blaze.

Cpl. Doug Wilson with Sidney North Saanich RCMP said they don’t suspect foul play to be a cause, but treat any structure fire as suspicious until investigators can rule it out.

We are thankful that all occupants of the home were able to get out safely, and the matter remains under investigation at this time.
