Saanich Police are looking for a driver who left the scene after he hit two dogs in a marked Saanich crosswalk on Friday morning.

Both dogs, a border collie and belgium shepherd,  died as a result of their injuries.

Acting Sgt. Jereme Leslie says a man was walking his dogs on Grange Rd when he entered a crosswalk at Interurban Road when both dogs were hit.

The driver who hit them asked the owner if he was okay before fleeing the scene.

“In this particular case the owner was crossing the street at a marked crosswalk, had his dogs leashed, had a light on himself and had even put lights on his dogs”. A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie said.

The driver is described as a white male in his early to mid-twenties with blonde hair.  The driver was operating a newer, blue, two door sedan.

It’s quite possible, due to the impact; there is now some damage to the front of the vehicle.

“We’re asking anyone with information to please come forward so we can identify the driver involved”.

If you have any information, you are asked to call Saanich Police at 250-475-4321 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
