Extreme weather protocol activated as temperatures dip

The Greater Victoria extreme weather protocol has been activated as cooler weather moves in.

According to Enviroment Canada, temperatures are expected to drop as low as -4°C with a 4-% chance of rain showers or flurries. Winds are also expected to pick up.

The Greater Victoria Extreme Weather Protocol is a regional community program developed to address the shelter needs of homeless people during periods of harsh wind, rain, snow, and/or subzero temperatures.

There are 395 spaces available tonight. Transportation from the Salvation Army ARC, Rock Bay Landing and Our Place will be available starting at 9pm and running until midnight
Shelters available tonight are as follows:

  • Rock Bay Landing – 535 Ellice Street – 250-383-1951 – 84 beds + 25 overflow mats (Co-Ed and pets)
  • Sandy Merriman – 809 Burdett Ave – 250-480-1408 – 25 beds (women only)
  • Salvation Army ARC – 525 Johnson St. – 250-384-3396 – 21 beds (men only)
  • Out of the Rain (St John the Divine – 1611 Quadra) – 250-415-3856 – 30 Mats (youth 15-25 only)
  • Cool Aid Seasonal Shelter – 755 Pandora – 250-383-1951 – 40 Mats (Co-Ed)
  • First Metropolitan United Church – 932 Balmoral – 60 Mats (Co-Ed)
  • Salvation Army – 612 David St. – 30 Mats (Co-Ed)
  • Victoria Native Friendship Centre – 231 Regina Ave – 25 Mats (Co-Ed)
  • Our Place – 919 Pandora Ave – 30 Mats (Co-Ed)
