Murder charges recommended after victim in downtown stabbing dies

A man who was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition on Saturday morning after being stabbed in the neck has died from his injuries.

Police were called to the McDonald’s on Douglas Street around 12:30 a.m after an altercation broke out at the intersection of Douglas and View Street.

Police said the man was in life-threatening condition when they arrived on scene and he was rushed to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Officers were able to locate the suspect in the area after reviewing video surveillance from McDonald’s. According to the Times Colonist,  the man was located in Westcoast Waffles on Broad Street and had to be tasered.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is taking over the file and continue to gather evidence.

A 27-year-old Victoria man remains in custody. Police are recommending a charge of murder against the man.
