Free Refurbished Hearing Aids and Services to Low Income Residents

Share

Sound of Change is a new initiative, with the goal of providing free hearing assessments, treatment services and free refurbished hearing aids to low-income seniors and adults.

With the help of the Lions of BC Hearing Preservation Society, the Vancouver Foundation, the United Way of Greater Victoria and additional Sound of Change community supporters, IDHHC hopes to fit 150 vulnerable Vancouver Island residents with hearing aids over the next year.

“People with increasing hearing loss, especially senior citizens, may isolate themselves and that can create other concerns,” said Richard LeTourneau, President of IDHHC’s Board of Directors. “Fitting someone with a hearing aid and providing hearing rehabilitation services does more than help improve hearing levels. It helps reconnect people with family, friends and the community.”

Sound of Change clients:

  • receive a hearing assessment that is conducted by IDHHC’s audiologist
  • followed by a fitting or recommendation of hearing aid or other devices
  • IDHHC staff then develop a personalized communication plan including free hearing rehabilitation services
  • The only cost is IDHHC’s $25 annual membership fee

Vancouver Island residents who would like to find out more about the Sound of Change initiative are invited to contact IDHHC at (250) 592-8144 or visit http://idhhc.ca
