Sidney explains what happened to their fireworks show

Share

Technology proved it can’t always be relied upon. As was the case on Canada Day eve in Sidney when the fireworks went berserk.

Some described the fireworks display as unusual, or even confusing, while others said it was the most amazing 30-seconds of fireworks they’d ever seen.

It appeared as though all the fireworks went off in the first 30 seconds of the show – that moment was what should have in fact been the finale of the fireworks. Those that waited another 5 to 10 minutes, got to see what technically would have been the start of the show.

Here is what happened according to the Town of Sidney:

Spectators at the Annual Sidney Days, Canada Day Musical Fireworks Extravaganza on June 30th may have been confused by the unusually erratic display. This year’s show was unfortunately effected by a technical malfunction in the computer program. Thanks to the quick thinking and professionalism of the fireworks conductor, the show did go on, and the audience was entertained by a wonderful show of lights.

The Town of Sidney, who sponsors the Fireworks Extravaganza, want to apologize to the public for this unfortunate situation and for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

Hundreds of volunteer hours go into organizing Sidney Days and Canada Day each year. Numerous dedicated individuals and organizations work hard to produce an amazing, fun, family event that is attended by thousands throughout the Greater Victoria area.
