The annual Canstruction event put on by the Dahlia Society to raise donations for the Mustard Seed is back at Mayfair Mall.
Nine teams of architects, engineers, groceries and schools are competing, using tens of thousands of cans – all in aid of local food banks. The colossal structures are made completely out of nonperishable food items – all for a good cause in fighting hunger.
This year, the theme is ‘A Blast From The Past’. The fantastic creations are on display for the public as giant art exhibits between May 6 and May 16 – during mall hours.
While there, you can vote for your favourite Canstruction for the ‘people’s choice award’ by making a donation of two dollars or two non-perishable food items to The Mustard Seed .
There will be an extended event on Saturday, May 14. Family Can Day will include a Canstruction scavenger hunt, local mascots and face painting.
There will also be a media challenge from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. between Ed Bain from 100.3 The Q and Dylan Willows from The Zone 91.3.
To date, Canstruction Victora, has raised nearly 60,000 cans of food, which, in addition to monetary donations, equals approximately $163,000 worth of product and funds to The Mustard Seed.
Last year, The Dahlia Society, donated over 30,000 cans of food which made it one of the largest annual donations in the Mustard Seed’s history!
