Three local car clubs have set up a Gofundme campaign to raise funds for the family of West Shore RCMP officer, Cst. Sarah Beckett, who was killed in a collision while on duty Tuesday morning. The campaign has already raised $5,070 in three hours.

32-year-old Cst. Sarah Beckett, of the West Shore Detachment ‘E’ Division was working an overnight shift when her cruiser was t-boned by a truck.

The driver of the pickup-truck is now in police custody. There is a criminal investigation underway. While still unconfirmed, early reports indicate alcohol and speed were involved.

From the Gofundme campaign page, “In light of the terrible accident today at Goldstream and Peatt Road in Langford, an RCMP officer (Cst. Sarah Beckett) has since succumbed to her injuries. Cst. Beckett leaves behind two small children and a husband.”

NvUS’ Victoria Chapter, Team Defiance’s 250 Chapter and the Vancouver Island Subaru Club are raising money towards helping Cst. Beckett’s family. “The car community in Victoria is very small. At times like these we need to help support the loved ones of those who have fallen protecting our streets,” Kayla Reid the Gofundme campaign creator tells Victoria Buzz.

“When a tragedy in a small community like ours happens, we need to help and support one another. Our deepest condolences are with the family and we pleased to see how many members of the community and residents of Northern Vancouver Island have come together in such a tragic time.”

The groups also plan to host a BBQ fundraiser on April 17th, 2016 at Fountain Tire in Langford. Details of this event will be announced next week.
