First cruise ship of 2016 arrives at Ogden Point, Sunday, April 3

The Star Princess will arrive at Ogden Point at 8AM, Sunday, April 3, making it the first cruise ship of the season. It departs at 23:59PM that evening.

Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) anticipates that this year, 533,000 passengers will visit Victoria.

On May 17, the Royal Caribbean International Explorer of the Seas will be at Ogden Point 8AM-5PM – it is the largest cruise ship to ever call to Victoria and the largest ship operating in the Alaskan region, with 3,114 passengers.

This year, there will be 227 ship calls with a 5% increase time spent in port and a 23% increase in daytime calls over 2014. Ogden Point is the busiest cruise ship port-of-call in Canada.

According to the GVHA the industry supports 880 direct and indirect jobs in the region, with an overall economic impact for the Greater Victoria region estimated at more than $100 million. Each cruise ship call bringing in an average of $40,000 in direct spending.
